Camping

This past weekend, we took Carter on his first Camping trip. Not only did we camp, but we went backpacking. Yes, you read right, backpacking with an 8 month old!!! We went to the Uinta Mountains outside of Park City with Clint and Lindsay. The first night we just car camped right next to a river. It was a good thing the river was so loud, because Carter was up every half hour to an hour because he could not breathe. Poor guy got a stuffy nose and had problems all night. Woke up that morning cranky due to the lack of sleep, and told Tim I was going to be going home, because I could not stand another night of no sleep. Tim begged me to stay one more night, and promised that he would take care of Carter during the night. So, we backpacked into Wall Lake, only about 1 mile in, and set up camp. After getting there, we decided to take another hike, just to completely exhaust us. Once again, Carter could not breathe and we were up all night. Tim did take control tough and tried to sooth the poor little one. All in all, Carter was so well behaved, and it would have been a great trip if we could have just gotten a little sleep. Maybe next year...

Park Ciy

This past weekend, Tim and I celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary!! We spent 3 days, 2 nights at Park City. So much fun!! Park City is such a beautiful town, with tons to do. We rode the free bus system everywhere and ate at some really good restaurants. On Sunday, we spent the whole day hiking and enjoying the sunshine. Carter had a blast! Here's to many more years of love with my Sunshine!!!!! Thanks for the great weekend!

Random

Here are some random pictures of the past few weeks since I have been lazy on the blogging. For those of you who want a Carter update, he is doing much better since we got started on the antibiotics. I do feel like his breathing while sleeping has gotten worse however. When we get him back to his baseline, we will be doing another sleep study to figure out where to go from there. Poor little guy!!

One Room Done....

One room done, many many more to go!!!

Before

After

I was so excited to finally get Carter's room done. I must say I am very impressed with my skills. I did it all by myself, and I am super proud of how it turned out. It was so much fun to finally get Carter a crib. I have been dreaming of buying his crib and getting it all set up since the day we found out we were pregnant. He loves being in it, and as I type this, his is napping peacefully in it. I cant wait to get the rest of the house done now!!!

Old Man

Timmy turned 30 on August 6th!! On that Friday, Joey and Jessica took us out to down town Salt Lake to celebrate. It was a great and fun meal! I cant believe I am married to a 30 year old!!!!!

Children's

Yesterday Tim, Carter and I drove to the Children's hospital to be seen by Dr. Muntz, the ENT on the cleft team. We waited a long long time to be seen, but it was worth it because this guy was amazing! He spent almost an hour in the room with us, until 6:30 in the evening. In the end, he decided that Carter probably just had some kind of infection going on, possibly a sinus infection. Super scary to me if a sinus infection can cause this to happen. He started him on some antibiotics and said he would be in contact with us on Monday, and once Carter is back to his base line we will do another sleep study. Depending on what the sleep study reveals, we will then have to look at the Mandibular Distraction surgery again. Ahhhh
Carter slept well last night, so lets hope he just continues to improve. Poor little man, I have a feeling it is going to be a long fall and winter if this keeps up.

Down for the Night

I just put Carter down to bed for the night (we hope!). He slept pretty much all day, and was breathing much better during sleep. I gave him another steroid injection at home this afternoon. We should have more information tomorrow after our appointment with the ENT. Goodnight!!

Sleeping like an Angel

Carter sleep well last night. He fell asleep about midnight, kept his sats up above 92 all night (most of the night he was running 98), and is still asleep at 11:45 this morning. Sweet baby boy.

Abrupt

Vacation in Alaska ended abruptly on Monday after the decision to take little Carter home. For the past week, my little man has not been able to breathe when he falls asleep. I would stay up with him all night holding his tiny body as he would work so hard for a breath. We went and saw a doctor in Soldotna, who was stumped by Carter, but finally decided that maybe he just had some nasal congestion. With all the problems Carter has with his airway, this could be the likely cause of him not being able to breathe. So we went back to the cabin with a decongestant and hoped for a good nights rest. He slept for about 3 hours that night, and then the next day he was able to take all his naps, followed by a good nights rest. And then it started all over again...
On Sunday night, Carter was just exhausted, and it was obvious he was not going to get over this easily. I was afraid we were going to end up in the hospital with him, away from Tim, and the doctors he really needs to see. So I changed my plane ticket and got on the next available flight. Tim spent all day Monday on the phone trying to get him into the ENT, with no luck. Carter and I arrived back to Salt Lake City around 9:30 last night. He was so good on the plane, all he wanted to do was sleep, but was unable to. Poor little man. Last night he got about 2 hours of sleep.
I spent all morning on the phone trying to get some help for him. I finally got him into a pediatrician this afternoon. She collaborated with the ENT, and after neck X-Rays, she decided that he could possibly have croup. She gave him an injection of a steroid, sent us home with a pulse ox, and strict instructions for tonight. If Carter does any retraction breathing tonight, we are going straight to the ER. As I am writing this, Carter is asleep in his bed, sleeping wonderfully. Lets hope the rest of the night is this good and we get to wake up in our own beds.
If we don't have to go to the ER tonight, we will be seeing Dr.Muntz at Primary Children's on Thursday. Please pray for my little man, he has his mommy worried sick. Not only am I going on a few hours sleep for the past week, but my heart really hurts to see him struggling.
Pictures and the run down of Alaska will have to wait till another and better day. God Bless!!!
