Adventures

Today Carter and I headed into the hospital this morning for our check-up with Dr. Muntz.  Here is the run down of what we talked about:
~ The palate looks all healed, no hole to be seen!
~ I expressed concerns about his breathing while sleeping might not be the best anymore.  We have to do another sleep study (Oh yeah, you know I love 'em!!)
~ Had Carter's hearing tested.  Passed with flying colors, and the tubes are working well.
~ Talked about Carter's lack of eating.  Dr.Muntz said this is very abnormal for a cleft baby to do this, they usually go to town with their food when they get the palate fixed.  So, continue to see the eating specialist, we are also going to sign up for a class at the hospital that has something to do with eating problems.  If nothing works, we will probably have to see a Endocrinologist to make sure all his hormones are intact and working well.  And, worst case scenario, if Carter completely stops eating on me, gets dehydrated, all that good stuff, he threated a feeding tube.  Yes, after almost 14 months, the possibility of Carter having to have a feeding tube is still lingering.  Eat my son, I know you can do it!!  (Don't worry, this is very worst case, and Carter still likes to eat his Boost everyday, so that should keep him from loosing weight.)
~ Follow up: Dr. Muntz will call us with the results of the Sleep Study and we will go from there.  I told him to make sure to call me with happy news after this sleep study.
So, there you have it.  That was our exciting day at the hospital.  Timmy is working the night shift tonight, so it is just me and the two little ones.  He should be home early in the morning, and then has 3 days to spend with us!!!

Oh Boy, that was a BIG sneeze!

Hiking Utah Style

Today we took Carter and Kenai out on a hike up some Canyon here in Utah (by Park City).  It was a great day, tons of snow, and lots of pictures.  Carter loves hiking and just looks around the whole time.  Kenai whines when we stop to take a break, she just wants to keep moving!  When then headed up to Park City for dinner and Pizza and Noodle Company.  Yummmy!!  When we got home we sat down to get Carter ready for bed.  After the teeth were brushed, jammies on, milk drunk, Carter proceeded to throw up all over me.  And again, and again.  We are exhausted, and are hoping that we actually get some sleep tonight.  So very thankful that Carter did not puke in the restaurant, or better yet, in the pack during our hike!!  Oh, that probably would have made the picture of the day!!  Love you sweet Carter, feel better!

Oh Goodness

My conversation with Carter this morning went like this:
Me: "Carter, can you say Mama?"
Carter: "Yeah!"

And that was that.  No Mama today, but he is trying to say ball.  Just can't quite get the B sound down, it all comes out as a G.  The poor little guy has had a low-grade fever for the past 2 days, so he has been sleeping and snuggling a lot.  Hopefully soon he will be feeling better.

Speech Therapy

Today Carter and I got up super early and went to his very first Speech Therapy appointment. I really wanted to get him going on therapy to see if we could improve his eating.  After leaving there, I felt positive about what we need to do with this little guy, and feeding him does not seem like such a daunting task now.  He is right where he needs to be for speech, so that is great!  At about the age of 2, we will start therapy to work on just his speech.  Right now we are going to focus on getting him to eat some textures.  After his palate was repaired, he regressed to not wanting anything with textures in his mouth.  It may be a long road, but we can do it!!  Go Carter, Go!!!!
I had this novel idea today to take a cute picture of Carter's backside, with his little bun buns all smooched up on the floor (you all know the pictures I am talking about right?)  Well, apparently the pictures turn out better if your son actually has some bun buns, and you are not just staring at his spine!  So, forget the cute butt picture, it just does not work with Carter's figure!  I do think however, we were able to get some pretty cute one.  Don't forget to check out the photo of the day, it is pretty adorable!

Feeling like Spring

Today was just so beautiful.  Carter and I took Kenai out for a walk to the park, and it was so much fun.  Kenai enjoys running around the park in the snow, while Carter and I take pictures.  Some times I feel like a crazy Mother who thinks her child is so much cutier than any other child on the planet.  Well, it probably is true.  I mean, look at my son!!!!

My Little Ham

Carter just makes me laugh.  He was in an excellent mood today, just laughing and being a little ham.  Tim started his new rotation today.  He has a long drive and did not get home till almost 7pm tonight.  I have a feeling it is going to be a long month, with many late nights!  Carter missed him like crazy, and was SO happy to see Tim walk through the door tonight.
